• Question: do you ever get bored of your job.if yes why?

      All jobs can be boring at times. I sometimes find it dull to do a lot of paperwork but I know it’s worth it because I get to do a lot of fun things in my job too. The good thing about working in science is that is gives you very desirable skills, so if you don’t like your job you can always find a different one you like more, and it allows you to work all around the world, as science is like an international language.

      Yes there are definitely times when the work is boring. Sometimes you have to do very fiddly difficult things that take a long time or sometimes you have to repeat experiments over and over again to make sure your results are correct. Sometimes that can get boring.

      There are always parts of jobs that are boring. As much as I like working with plants and insects, even I get quite bored when I’ve spent 4 or 5 hours counting flowers and attaching tiny stickers to them. There are lots of things in science that you have to be very accurate about and the work is often quite delicate, so those things take a long time.

      But generally I know why I’m doing all these things and that the end goal is to get some interesting research out of it, so that motivates me.

      If I ever get bored, I just find a way to make what I am doing enjoyable. This could be listening to music as I do it or doing it a different way (e.g. drawing instead of writing). There are lots of boring things but only if you look at it that way. So far, I am not bored with the job I do. If I was bored I would probably know by now and I would change jobs. You will not be able to do a good job of something if it does not interest you. You have to love what you do, otherwise how can you inspire other people when you do not find it interesting yourself 🙂
