Yes, I have lots of small Christmas cactus (it gets it’s name because it often flowers around Christmas time), I did have one large plant but they reproduce by dropping their ‘leaves’ and a new root will grow out of the leaf and form a whole new plant. This is a type of asexual reproduction, so the offspring will be the same at the parent plant. so I now have lots of little plants.
I also grow a succulent called a Jade plant, which also reproduced by dropping its leaves and they grow roots and make new plants, and a spider plant, which instead of dropping leaves will send out a shoot and grow a whole new plant at the end, the shoot will then die and you will have two separate plants. (I sound like I live in a greenhouse, but I just really like houseplants!)
I would really like a Golden Barrel cactus, as this is the type we often think about when we say cactus, as it has lots of large spines.
Do you have any cacti, succulents or spider plants at home? What’s your favorite kind of plant?
I’m glad. I also like how plants get their names. The Jade plant is also called a money tree, because the leaves are thick and rounded and look like coins. When I was small my parents owned a money tree and I pulled off all the leaves as I thought it would turn into actual money! lol.
