• Question: How can you find out how the smell of the plants are changing?

      This is a great question, we use a special machine called a gas chromatography mass spectrometer. The machiene splits up all the different chemicals that make up a smell before telling us what each one is. We sample the plant smell in clean air and see what chemicals are there, we then sample the chemicals after they have reacted and see what’s there. We then compare the results and see what has changed. We see quite a few new chemicals being made which is really interesting. Hope that helps if not ask me more questions 🙂
