I don’t currently work in the lab, but I have worked in more than 6 different labs in my career and they vary a lot in size. some labs are really small and focused on a specific project or challenge, and some labs in industry are huge and very diverse. I have researched everything from genes in plants, viruses, cancer, bacterial contamination in medication, and genetics. Working in a lab can be a lot of fun, as it’s very practical and hands-on which I really liked. Right now I give money to scientist so they can run their own labs and research really important science relating to removing plastic from the ocean and creating alternatives to plastics, and making food which is healthier and better for us, like Super Broccoli.
Have you visited a lab? Would you like to work in a lab?

I really enjoy lab work. It’s quite different from what we would call field work, which is when you work outside. I am doing field work at the moment and I love being outside, but sometimes it is frustrating because things don’t work and you have to worry about the weather. With lab work, I go into the lab and I normally have a very specific thing I want to do (like counting pollen on flowers) and I just do that for a few hours. I don’t have to worry about the weather or the conditions and I get to listen to my music!

My lab work is fun, I get to use microscopes to look at leaves really close up. I want to find out if the surface of the leaf will change in the future.
I also love doing dissections, this used to be fun in school. I loved finding out how different things worked.
