That’s a hard question to answer. It’s fun and interesting, and every day is different. I really enjoy what I do because I get to directly help people. There are so many different types of scientists who do different things that it is hard to make generalisations. Some scientists work in the field and so are working outside for weeks at a time, and other scientists work in a lab carrying out experiments, and then some scientists mostly work form a computer at a desk. I would say that working from a computer most of the time is an increasingly large part of a scientists time, because technology is improving and automating manual processes, but we still need people to analyse and understand the data and results. I would say that all scientists get to work with other people who care about science and love what they do. Most scientist choose this career because they want to solve a problem and make the world better, and so you get to work with interesting people who want to work together to solve the problem, which is a great feeling.

I agree with Emma it totally depends what youre doing. You could be a scientist working for a pharmaceutical company trying to develop drugs or you could be a researcher at a university. It really depends on what type of science you’re doing too. I have friends that are doing research on monkeys and so they spend 6 months of the year living in the jungle in Africa with monkeys! Whilst I spend most of my time in the laboratory. I have other friends that just do a lot of computer programming. So it entirely depends on what you are doing.

I really like being a scientist. You can chose to learn about and investigate what you want to learn about. Every day your doing something different and new and making new discoveries.
