Were not normally allowed to make things explode unfortunately. There are a few Alkali Metals which have dramatic reactions with water, such as elements Lithium, sodium and potassium. They used to demonstrate these in chemistry class at school.
      .
Another chemical which causes explosions is Gunpowder, which is the earliest known chemical explosive. It consists of a mixture of sulfur (S), charcoal (C), and potassium nitrate (saltpeter, KNO3). The sulfur and charcoal act as fuels while the saltpeter is an oxidizer. This is what is used in Fireworks.
      .
It’s really important we don’t try and make exploding potions or chemicals ourselves at home, as someone could get hurt, but it is fun to watch explosions done by professionals.
Would you like to be an explosives expert? Of you could work in pyrotechnics, they make all the firework explosions and fire displays you see at festivals and concerts, that looks a fun job!
