There are 118 elements in the periodic table. This table is a way of listing the elements by the structure of their atoms. This includes how many protons they have as well as how many electrons they have( in their outer shell). From left to right and top to bottom, the elements are listed in the order of their atomic number, which is the number of protons in each atom. The elements are also put into different groups depending on their properties and there are 18 columns for these groups. You’ll also notice that the elements are abbreviated to one or two letters (e.g. He is helium). Fun fact: The only letter not in the periodic table is the letter J!
