India and China both have big problems with air pollution, with 350,000-400,000 premature deaths in China due to the high levels of pollution. The high levels of pollution is from the rapid industrialization of both of these counties, factories producing toxic emissions, coal fired power stations, the sudden expansion in car ownership, inefficient dung-burning cookstoves, and very little government regulation. But this is becoming a significant issue and both China and India have plans to tackle air pollution and invest in renewable.
