I’m not really sure. I’m always learning new things, so lots of things seems to be a discovery to me, but they are not new to science. I think the most important discovery I have made was that I was able to prove a few genes were not related to cancer, as they had been associated. This is a good thing because if we know they are not involved we will focus on the genes which are involved and can develop drugs and treatments which target these.

When I was a kid I thought I made an amazing discovery. I thought I had found the world’s largest mushroom! It was about 30cm in diameter (about the size of a football). We called the Guinness book of world records, but unfortunately the Giant Puffball is common and normally get that big, I had just never seen one before.

The best thing about science is discovering and you will always think everything has been discovered but it hasn’t. There are so many things that need to be discovered!

In 2014, I (and my team) discovered a new potato in Peru!
We let the local people name it and they decided to name it after me. ‘Anita’ which is Peruvian for my name- Anna. I was so so happy.

To date I have also found 1,000’s of four leaf clovers. These bring good luck so go outside and discover them for yourself 🙂
