All trees are important whether big or small. This is mostly because we need them to produce oxygen for us to survive. However, I will point out a few trees that have particular benefits which can be considered important. Firstly, the mighty Oak tree! The oak is needed by over 2,300 species of wildlife for their survive. Now that’s what I would call an important tree! We have used oak trees for hundreds of years to build ships, make our homes with and Robin hood even hid inside one! The coconut palm tree- a very important species to people living in hot, remote islands. Coconut trees provide the delicious coconut; full of nutrients and a great source of hydration in the hot weather. You can also use the wood and leaves for building that desert island house. The Willow tree! The bark of a willow tree contains compounds that we use as a painkiller- aspirin. Aspirin is used all the time worldwide to treat pain, headache, muscle pain and osteoarthritis. And lastly, the pine tree. A simple conifer tree that has served humans very very well. We have made buildings, furniture, paper and even our toilet paper comes from pine trees. In the war, these were very important to help us make the planes and machinery we need to win the war with. So with over 60,000 species of tree in the world, ALL of them are super important to us, animals and even to other plants!

This is a really hard question! Do I pick a tree which we use for its wood? Like pine or oak, or a tree where we eat the fruit or nuts? Like an apple or almond tree. Should I pick a tree where we have developed medicine? Like the willow where we developed aspirin. Should I pick a decorative tree? Like the Japanese maple. Or just a fast growing tree which could remove and store more carbon from the atmosphere and reduce climate change?
      .
I think I will choose the walnut tree, because it produces delicious walnuts and we can also make furniture from its wood. What do you think is the most important tree?
